Stéphanie Martel

Stéphanie Martel is Assistant Professor of Political Studies — specializing in International Relations — at Queen’s University, where she is also a Fellow at the Centre for International and Defence Policy. She is a Distinguished Fellow at the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada, a Team Lead (Asia-Pacific) within the Defence and Security Foresight Group, and an executive member of the Canadian Council for Southeast Asian Studies. She serves as a Canadian representative at the ASEAN Regional Forum’s Expert and Eminent Persons Group. Her research focuses on multilateral diplomacy, security regionalism, and the role of discourse in the social construction of world politics, with a focus on Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining Queen’s, Dr. Martel was an FRQSC Post-doctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia’s Institute of Asian Research and the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies (McGill University). She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Université de Montréal.
